Sample size

(go to Outline)

Was an appropriate sample size calculated beforehand? If not, perhaps the survey managers do not know as much as they should about survey statistics. Using a standard sample size, such as 30 clusters of 30 households each, often results in a survey sample size which is larger than necessary and wastes resources.

Was the sample size calculated correctly? Did the sample size calculation account for the sampling method? If cluster sampling is used, the sample size must be inflated to account for the loss of precision resulting from cluster sampling.
